THE IMMORTAL NIGHTFLAMES
by Icepick Phil/C. Crampton

Boulder's crazed Immortal Nightflames emerged in early '78 making their premier as the opening act at Joey Vain and Scissors' final live performance. The lineup featured skinsman Peter Roos (ex-Joey Vain and Scissors), singer Bobby Goldstein (ex-Driver), guitarist Eddie Turner and bassist Ludwig (ex-Silver Armadillo band).

The band's sound was R&B rooted and live the songs were all uptempo and very high energy. Popular original songs included "All Cried Out" and "I Want To Go to Toyko".

The band did not consider itself a part of the the Colorado "new wave" scene though they performed with local bands like The Corvairs and The Violators. They were known to often refer to the Denver punks as "pointy headed bastards". Opened up for New York Rockabilly legend Robert Gordon at Boulder's Tulagi's in May of '79 on a bill with The Corvairs. Also were opening act for Cheap Trick at the Rainbow Music Hall in early '79. Roos, Ludwig, and Goldstein went on to perform with the Transistors' Murdock in Willie Cruz and the Dreamboats in the early 80's.

Guitarist Eddie Turner has a long active career playing and touring with his music, currently leading the band Eddie Turner and the Trouble. Here's a youtube video from 2006. And another youtube. There are a lot of them!
